Ivrea is cut from pull-up leather, the kind that lightens where it stretches and darkens where it folds, so the case you carry in month six looks nothing like the one that arrived. Slide the MacBook out and the sleeve lies flat as a mouse pad, or slips under the laptop as a base pad. Two jobs, one piece of hide.

The profile is deliberately slim — 20mm front to back — so it disappears into a bag instead of doubling the bulk. There is no zip and no flap: the top is open and the leather grips, which means one hand in, one hand out, and nothing hard to scratch the lid. Sizes run from 13.3-inch through 14.2 to a full 16, cut to the millimetre for the MacBook and roomy enough for a 13 to 16-inch Dell, HP or XPS.
