Deruta is embossed with an ostrich grain — the raised follicle pattern, pressed into full cowhide. We say embossed and not ostrich, because that is what it is: the texture of exotic leather without the exotic hide, and without its price.

The name is from Deruta, in Umbria — a town that has been painting maiolica in saturated colour for seven hundred years. It felt like the right namesake for the one case in this collection that arrives in plum, teal and terracotta instead of another brown.

About embossed grain

The ostrich pattern here is pressed, not grown. That is a deliberate choice: genuine ostrich hide costs several times this and comes with paperwork most people would rather not deal with. What you get is the texture — the raised dots that catch light and give the case grip — on leather that ages like the cowhide it is.

Care

Wipe with a dry, soft cloth. The raised grain holds a little more dust than a smooth finish; a soft brush clears it. Keep away from standing water and prolonged direct sun.
